When Christopher Columbus reached the Caribbean in 1492, he had no idea as to the impact that his voyage would have on the world's population and the course of history. By his reaching this New World, Columbus began the process that would annihilate nearly all of the Americas' native population and would change the lives of so many in his home continent of Europe. While many diseases were exchanged, most of them going from Europe to the New World, this project places emphasis on two diseases that affected the lives of millions: smallpox and syphilis.
